FlatWorld Multi-Language Audiobooks turn each section of a FlatWorld textbook into audio, played from the textbook's own menu. Students listen in English or in one of 32+ languages and dialects on request, set their own speed, and can change languages mid-chapter to hear a section again in the new language.

How it works

Students play the audiobook, pick a language, and switch languages whenever they want.
A Player in the Textbook's Menu.
Under Audiobook, the player has play, 10-second skips back and ahead, and a progress bar for jumping within the section. Students change sections from the table of contents, and Auto-Navigate turns to the next page when the audio for a page ends.
32+ Languages and Dialects, on Request.
The Audiobook Settings menu lists each textbook's languages. To add one of the 32+ languages and dialects, instructors ask their FlatWorld rep and students ask FlatWorld support. The added language comes at no additional cost.
Students Switch Languages Mid-Chapter.
Students can change the language partway through a section, and the section starts over in the new language, so they can hear the same passage in both.

- 0:07This feature will allow your students to listen to their textbook in English as well as other languages upon request.
- 0:14Let's dive in. First, we'll click on the audiobook tab on your sidebar within the FlatWorld eReader.
- 0:20This will open up the audiobook settings window.
- 0:22At the very top, you'll see a dropdown menu that includes the languages currently available for this textbook.
- 0:28Next, you can select the language you'd like to listen to your textbook in.
- 0:31Once you've selected your preferred language, you can adjust the reading speed and click save settings.
- 0:37Many of our audiobooks are already available in multiple languages, but if you don't see the one you're looking for, you can request that it be added by messaging into support@flatworld.com.
- 0:47To play the chapter audio, simply click on the play button below the audiobook tab.
- 0:51You can easily switch your audiobook to another chapter or section by clicking on that chapter or section title in the table of contents panel.

What are FlatWorld Multi-Language Audiobooks?
FlatWorld Multi-Language Audiobooks are audio recordings of each section of a FlatWorld textbook, played inside the textbook. Students listen in English or in one of 32+ languages and dialects added on request.
How do students find the audiobook?
Under Audiobook, in the textbook's menu. Each student sets the language and the speed there, so there is nothing for you to assign, schedule, or grade.
Which languages are available?
FlatWorld produces the audiobook in 32+ languages and dialects on request. The Audiobook Settings menu in each textbook lists the languages that title already offers, starting with English.
Which FlatWorld textbooks include the audiobook?
Most FlatWorld titles include the audiobook with the Standard package. In the FlatWorld catalog, titles with the audiobook show its icon beside their names.
Can students request a new language?
Yes. Students can ask FlatWorld support through the live chat or at support@flatworld.com, and instructors can ask their FlatWorld rep. Added languages come at no additional cost to students.
Can students switch languages partway through a chapter?
Yes. Students can change the language in the Audiobook Settings menu at any point. The section then starts over in the new language, which lets them compare a passage in two languages.
Does the text on the page change language too?
The textbook's text stays in English, and the audio plays in the language the student picks.
Can students change the playback speed?
Yes. Students drag the speed slider or pick one of six presets from 0.7x to 2.0x, and the player's buttons skip back or ahead 10 seconds.
How is the audiobook different from a screen reader?
The audiobook is a study feature: audio of each textbook section, in the language a student picks. The FlatWorld textbook also works with screen readers and is built to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, documented in a public VPAT.
Is the audiobook included in the price?
Yes, with the Standard package. Basic includes the textbook, FlatWorld Homework, and SmartHelper. Standard adds a downloadable PDF, the audiobook, and chapter podcasts.
How is the audiobook different from FlatWorld Podcasts?
The audiobook reads the textbook aloud, section by section. FlatWorld Podcasts are a two-host conversation about each chapter, and both come with the Standard package.
Does the audiobook work on a phone?
Yes. On smaller screens the player moves to a bar along the bottom of the screen, with the same controls and a button for the Audiobook Settings menu.
