What a FlatWorld Podcast Sounds Like
Read The Transcript
0:00 Hey, welcome to a quick preview of what our new podcast sounds like. Wait, this is actually pretty cool. So students can literally listen to their textbook while they're walking to class or hitting the gym.
0:10 Exactly. And here's the best part. We're not just summarizing chapters.
0:14 We're having real conversations about the material, breaking down those complex concepts that can be challenging to absorb on your own. That's brilliant because some students just learn better through audio. When you hear two people actually discussing the ideas, asking questions, making connections, it really brings the content to life, right? It's like having knowledgeable study partners guiding you through the material.
0:37 And since we're working directly from each student's specific textbook, everything they hear is relevant to what they need to know for their course. Exactly. No more wondering if what you're studying is even relevant.
0:50 This could be a game changer for students who learn better through listening. Absolutely. We're really excited about the potential for students to retain more information and feel more confident about the material when they can engage with it in this conversational format.
1:04 Love that. It's taking something that felt like a chore and making it feel like a conversation. That's exactly what we're going for.
1:10 We can't wait for you to experience your textbook in this whole new way. This is going to be great. See y'all soon.
FlatWorld Podcasts are two-host audio episodes covering every chapter of a FlatWorld textbook, drawn only from that textbook. Two speakers discuss and analyze the chapter's key concepts in the book's own order, section by section, so students can listen alongside the reading or come back to it later. Episodes are produced with human review at multiple stages and play inside the FlatWorld eReader, on any device.
For students
Another Way Into the Same Reading.
Podcasts give students a second pass through the chapter you assigned, in a format they can take with them.
Two Hosts, Not a Narrator.
Two speakers discuss and analyze the chapter rather than reading it aloud, adding context and examples drawn from the text itself.
An Episode for Every Chapter.
Each chapter of the textbook has its own episode, so students can pair listening with whatever you assigned that week.
Study Time They Already Have.
Episodes play in the FlatWorld eReader on any device, so a commute, a walk, or a workout is time students can spend in the chapter.
From Your Chapter to Their Headphones.
Chapter 3 · Perception and the Self
College Success, Version 4.0
Two Hosts Talk Through the Chapter.
Two speakers trade questions and explanations the way a study pair would, working through the chapter's ideas instead of reciting them. Months of tuning went into the voices and the pacing, so an episode sounds like a conversation worth sitting in on.
Every Word Traces Back to the Textbook.
A proprietary process keeps each episode inside the adopted textbook: no outside sources, no invented detail, no tangents. Every episode passes human review at multiple stages before it ships, and a fidelity report records the check.
Students Follow Along, Page by Page.
An episode tracks the chapter's own progression, section by section, so students can find the passage under discussion while it is being discussed. Listening runs beside the reading rather than replacing it.

Spot Podcasts in the Catalog.
Titles that include podcasts carry the microphone icon beside the book in the FlatWorld catalog, alongside the icons for the other tools that edition ships with.
For instructors
Ready to Assign the Day You Adopt.
Podcasts arrive with the adoption. There is nothing to switch on, and nothing extra for students to buy.
Included with the Standard Package.
Podcasts come with the Standard package on most current FlatWorld titles, at no additional cost to your students.
Assign Them as Listening Work.
Instructors already assign episodes as listening activities beside the reading they cover, the same way any other assigned material works.
Nothing but the Book You Chose.
Episodes draw only from the adopted textbook, so what students hear is the material you selected for the course and nothing else.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are FlatWorld Podcasts?
FlatWorld Podcasts are two-host audio episodes covering every chapter of a FlatWorld textbook. Two speakers discuss, analyze, and break down the chapter's key concepts in a dialogue-based format, drawing only on the adopted textbook, so students can listen through a chapter the way they would sit in on a discussion between two people who know the material.
Which FlatWorld textbooks include podcasts?
Podcasts are included with the majority of the latest FlatWorld textbook editions, as part of the Standard package. To check a specific title, look for the podcast icon beside the book in the FlatWorld catalog.
How do you guarantee an episode only covers the textbook?
A proprietary process keeps each episode drawing exclusively from the adopted textbook, which prevents outside information, unverified sources, and irrelevant content from reaching the material. Every episode then passes human review at multiple stages to catch inaccuracies and verify that it aligns with the source chapter.
What tools did FlatWorld use to produce the podcasts?
The production process took seven months to develop. FlatWorld ruled out many existing AI podcast tools over intellectual property concerns and, more importantly, over hallucinations that inject false claims into source material. After testing more than a dozen platforms, FlatWorld selected a combination of AI engines that produce accurate, reliable results, then spent months tuning the voices and cadence.
Can I assign podcasts as homework?
Yes. Early adopters already assign episodes as listening activities, using them to reinforce the textbook content students are reading that week.
Is it easy for students to follow along in the textbook?
Yes. Episode scripts are written with extensive human oversight so the conversation moves through a chapter in the book's own order, section by section, rather than jumping between topics. Students can follow page by page while listening, and locate exactly where in the text the discussion is.
Where do students listen to the podcasts?
Inside the FlatWorld eReader, alongside the chapter itself. There is no separate app and no second login: instructors and students reach the episodes through the textbook they already have, on any device.
Do podcasts replace the reading?
No. Podcasts are built to complement reading assignments, not to stand in for them. An episode gives students another way into a chapter they are also expected to read, which is why an episode follows the chapter's structure instead of summarizing it.
